Co-op office building 2019

Our Big Idea

Like cities in many other warm weather climates, Tucson’s low-density neighborhoods are organized by a square mile grid of streets punctuated by strip malls. Due to many factors, in 2010 strip malls started to lose their tenants and thousands of buildings have since been left empty. This represents a loss of community gathering space. By retrofitting the shopping mall space as an net-positive co-operative office space with opportunities for small business expansion, food assistance programs, and non-profit partners, empty big-box stores such as the one we are retrofitting will act as a regenerative catalyst, helping those in struggling neighborhoods to bring back the community space
